Chapter Seven

“Why don’t you all change back to human?” Jason suggested as they brought all the shifters inside. There were thirteen cuberows, including the one still dressed in a werewolf costume, courtesy of Eric. The wolves didn’t make a move to do as ordered and Jason sighed. Toby felt for him. Ever since rescuing Toby and Tyler, Jason’s life changed drastically, spinning out of control. Jason shook his head, fell back on a sofa, and mumbled, “We’ll need to get a bigger house if we keep getting that many people invading us at one time.” Then louder, Toby’s mate said, “Now, I suggest you hurry up and shift before Dominic forces you to. A forced change is really unpleasant to watch and seems really painful, you know.” Twelve cuberows looked up to the one who appeared to be their leader and he nodded at them. One by one they shifted. Eric had the time of his life dressing each one in more and more outrageous costumes as they turned. Finally, the final two became human and got dressed up in ballerina dresses.

“Ran out of ideas, have you?” Toby asked the god. Eric only laughed and nodded. They now had twelve young men and one young woman standing before them dressed as ballerinas, princesses, and such, except the girl was dressed up as a chimney sweep. None of them looked older than twenty. Toby went past them, sat on the sofa next to Jason, and took his mate’s hand in his. Tyler, still in his tiger form, joined them, lying in front of both of them.

“Okay, now, why don’t you start from the beginning and tell me what was that all about?” Jason said. Their friends surrounded them, standing in various places around the room. The young invaders fidgeted, but no one spoke. Finally, the girl shot at them.

“We know you kidnapped Elina. We came to rescue her and take her back!”

“Lisa!” their leader snapped, but the girl just shot him a mutinous look. Toby felt Jason’s tiredness and wasn’t surprised when his mate pinched the bridge of his nose.

“Okay, once again: Who is Elina, why do you think we kidnapped her, and who the hell are you all?” The last part ended up as a shout. Toby heard a distant rumble of thunder rolling in the distance.

“Calm yourself, son!” Eric snapped and surprised Jason enough to make him look up. Toby gasped. Those strange little lightning bolts were playing in his mate’s eyes! Jason calmed down and the strange phenomenon disappeared.

“Right.” Jason cleared his throat and Toby rubbed his partner’s hand to further calm him down. “Now,” Jason continued in a much more sedated tone. “You will tell me what I want to know or I’ll let my friends force you to.” Their captives sent furtive glances around the room. Tyler sat up and started cleaning his claws. The fey brothers pulled out their daggers and started playing with them, swirling them on one finger, juggling and such. Morton muttered
